In case you haven’t heard—it’s Earth Month! Quite possibly our favorite time of the year – we love following in Aveda’s footsteps to decrease our consumption and conserve water waste. This year, we want you to join in on the fun—whether it’s in your home or with us in the salon. Ahead, you’ll see that there are so many (Easy!) things you can do to help.
THE DIFFERENCE STARTS AT HOME
With so many ways (and reasons) to cut back on your water consumption, sometimes things can seem really overwhelming. If you’re unsure of where to start making changes in your home, start with this list. We’ve outlined our favorite swaps to save you time, money and of course, help make a difference.
Save Water, Use Dry Shampoo
If you cut just three minutes from your usual shower time, you’ll save an average of six gallons of water. Take it a step further by incorporating dry shampoo into your hair care routine, because let’s get real—do you really need to wash your hair every single day? Aveda Shampure Dry Shampoo revives hair, absorbs excess oil and leaves you feeling refreshed. How’s that for second (and third) day hair?
Buy Vintage
It takes 1,800 gallons of water to grow enough cotton to make just one pair of jeans. Instead of making a beeline to your nearest department store for some new spring denim, check out your nearest vintage or consignment store—in most cases, you’ll save a few bucks, too! (We hear vintage Levi’s are all the rage nowadays, anyway.)
Turn It Off
Whether it’s brushing your teeth, washing your hands, or cutting your showers short—turn it off. Not just your faucets, either—be conservative with your lights and other electrical usage, too. Little by little, it makes a big difference (in your bills, and in the bigger picture).
Make Your Mondays Meatless
It took 660 gallons of water to make that burger you picked up for lunch last week. A healthier, more sustainable swap couldn’t be simpler—go meatless on Mondays! Bean burritos, chick pea salads and veggie bowls galore; it’s proof that cutting out meat one day a week doesn’t have to be boring—rather, it’s exceptionally delicious.
Be Mindful
From washing full loads of clothes or dishes to refraining from watering plants on cool, rainy or windy days, maintaining a mindful attitude of when to use water is key. After all—we can’t avoid using it, but if we practice habits like rinsing vegetables in a full sink or pan of water, taking shorter showers and consistently checking pipes for leaks, we can use our resources to their full potential.
HOW YOU CAN HELP
With every $25 donation made in our salon, you can choose to receive a fashion-colored blue hair extension (because we can’t get enough of #earthmonthblue), or a blowout with one of our new talent designers! (It’s a great excuse to make some date night plans afterwards, too.)
Bonus: if you make a donation in-house, your name will go on a water drop to be displayed in the salon on our Earth Wall! It makes for a great Instagram post—plus a feel-good reminder that every donation makes a big difference.
HOP ON OVER FOR HAPPY HOUR
We love Earth Month, and we can’t resist a good happy hour—so we decided to celebrate by making one of our own. Every Thursday through Saturday in April from 4 p.m. to close, we’re offering a $30 package (valued at $60)! In this package, you’ll experience a mini facial, hot towel hand treatment and massage, a makeup touch-up—and of course, a mimosa to top it all off.
One more thing—if winning a gift card valued at $200 sounds like something you’re interested in, a $2 ticket puts you in the drawing for a salon gift card. (Like we said, we really get excited over Earth Month.)
